In the lithograph «The Fishermen», the rhythm of industry intertwines with a sense of the archaic.

The muscular figures, broken down into angular segments, seem carved from basalt, while the fishing net becomes a geometric grid stretched between the shore and infinity. The water appears not as a natural element, but as a dense, vibrating mass that pulses in counterpoint to the fishermen's heavy breathing, their backs becoming dynamic wedges that cut into the grainy surface of the paper.

The eye follows the composition's sharp diagonals, where a cold mechanical dance takes shape in place of the customary struggle against the waves. The human figures lose their individuality, merging into a single visual rhythm that evokes a collective destiny. It is an image of eternal return, in which every haul of the net represents not simply the catching of fish, but a desperate attempt to wrest life itself from nothingness, condensed into an intense graphic cry. This work was exhibited in «Graphic Art of the Soviet and Post-Soviet Period» and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue. Germany, 2025.
