Landscape with a River
"Landscape with a River", S. Zhukovsky (attributed). The rendering of water and its reflections, characteristic of Stanislav Zhukovsky, along with the soft, lyrical image of nature, creates an intimate, serene mood. Stanislav Yulianovich Zhukovsky (1873–1944) was an outstanding Russian and Polish landscape painter, widely regarded as a direct heir to Levitan's tradition and one of the most prominent "Russian Impressionists." He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under Isaac Levitan and Vasily Polenov, earning the title of academician in 1907.
