Still Life with Flowers and Figure
An oil painting "Still Life with Flowers and Figure" in the recognizable manner of Hungarian artist Ferenc Seman. The composition featuring a bouquet in a ceramic jug and a pensive female figure against a deep blue background is executed with broad, generalized brushstrokes.
Ferenc Szeman (1937-2004) is a Ukrainian and Hungarian avant-garde painter, a master of still life and psychological portraiture. He studied at the Uzhhorod School of Decorative and Applied Arts (1953–1958) under Fedir Manailo and Anton Shepa, and took lessons from Adalbert Erdeli. His works show the influence of Matisse, Picasso, Van Gogh, German Expressionists (E. Nolde, E. Kirchner, F. Marc), as well as Surrealists and Dadaists — particularly in his collages and graphics.
