Russian Oil Industry in 1887: On the Issues of Oil Utilization, Oil Pipelines, Kerosene Pipelines and the Oil Excise Tax
Ragozin V. I. “Russian Oil Industry in 1887: On the Issues of Oil Utilization, Oil Pipelines, Kerosene Pipelines and the Oil Excise Tax.” — Typo-lithography of I. N. Kushnerev and Co., 1887. — 240 p.
A lifetime edition. The book is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the state and key challenges of the Russian oil industry. The author, being a major industrialist, examines the issues of deep oil refining based on his own experience, criticizes the construction of oil pipelines, and also studies the system of excise taxation. The publication is a valuable source on the history of the oil business in Russia at the end of the 19th century.
This is a fundamental study containing unique statistical and technological data. The work became the subject of controversy — responses by M. I. Lazarev and V. I. Ragozin were published in reply to it. The copy is of interest both to historians of economics and to collectors of industrial publications.
Viktor Ivanovich Ragozin (1833–1901) was a Russian engineer, entrepreneur and public figure, one of the first organizers of the production of lubricating oils from oil residues in Russia; he actively participated in the debate on the methods of developing the oil industry and was the author of a number of works devoted to its history and economics.
