History of the Formation and Development of the System of Russian Civil Procedure up to the Code of 1649
Mikhailovich, Matvey,
"History of the Formation and Development of the System of Russian Civil Procedure up to the Code of 1649."
St. Petersburg: Printed at the Printing House of Karl Kray, 1848.
The author, acting adjunct professor and candidate of laws, attempted a systematic exposition of the history of the formation and development of Russian civil procedure in the period up to the Council Code (Sobornoye Ulozheniye) of 1649.
The work covers the earliest period of Russian law — from the first written monuments (Russkaya Pravda, judicial charters, the Pskov and Novgorod judicial charters) to the mid-17th century. The author analyzes procedural norms, the judicial system, the procedure for filing claims, evidence, and the execution of decisions. This is one of the first works in Russian legal science devoted to the history of civil procedure.
The uniqueness of the information lies in the fact that this is one of the first systematic studies in Russia on the history of civil procedure of the pre-Petrine era, based on the analysis of archival and legislative sources. For legal historians and specialists in the history of the judicial system, the book is of considerable scholarly interest.
M. Mikhailovich — a Russian jurist of the mid-19th century, candidate of laws, acting adjunct professor, author of a master's dissertation on the history of Russian civil procedure.
