The Tree Guides the Composition in a Strong Vertical Axis
In this lithograph by Heorhii Yakutovych, the composition develops around the strong vertical axis of a tree.
Among its branches, observers scan the horizon, while at their feet soldiers advance to the attack in a compact, determined movement. The contrast between waiting and action lends the work great dramatic tension, transforming the scene into a powerful reflection on courage and the fate of war.
This work was exhibited in «Graphic Art of the Soviet and Post-Soviet Period» and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue. Germany, 2025.
