Haymaking
«Haymaking».
In this lithograph, the haystacks take on monumental geometric forms, while the figures of the reapers are reduced to dynamic lines and diagonals that articulate the rhythm of the composition. The strong contrast between black and white transforms the landscape into an austere and powerful vision, in which humanity and nature merge into a single graphic language inspired by the energy of labour.
This work was exhibited in «Graphic Art of the Soviet and Post-Soviet Period» and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue. Germany, 2025.
Artist biography
Nadiia Lopukhova (1928-2014) was a Ukrainian graphic artist, illustrator and book artist. She studied at the Kyiv State Art Institute from 1948 to 1954 and graduated from the book graphics workshop with an excellent diploma project.
From the mid-1950s she worked with Ukrainian publishing houses including Molod, Dytvydav/Veselka and Dnipro. Lopukhova participated in republican and all-Union exhibitions and is known for bright, lyrical illustrations and works of easel graphics preserved in Ukrainian museum collections.
