This watercolour conveys the freshness and transparency of a spring morning.
In the foreground, the green of the young grass and the tall poplars lead the eye towards a luminous sky, while the village emerges in the background in a few delicate touches of colour. The light washes and fluidity of the watercolour create an atmosphere of stillness, spaciousness and harmony, evoking the fleeting beauty of spring.
This work was exhibited in «Graphic Art of the Soviet and Post-Soviet Period» and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue. Germany, 2025.
Artist biography
Nadiia Lopukhova (1928-2014) was a Ukrainian graphic artist, illustrator and book artist. She studied at the Kyiv State Art Institute from 1948 to 1954 and graduated from the book graphics workshop with an excellent diploma project.
From the mid-1950s she worked with Ukrainian publishing houses including Molod, Dytvydav/Veselka and Dnipro. Lopukhova participated in republican and all-Union exhibitions and is known for bright, lyrical illustrations and works of easel graphics preserved in Ukrainian museum collections.
