In this lithograph, Ivan Batechko transforms the monumental city into a poetic image, in which its historic architecture and the spirit of Kyiv are united by an expressive line and intense contrasts of light and shadow. The work goes beyond a simple urban view, offering an emotional interpretation that exalts the city's timeless harmony and majesty.
This work was exhibited in «Graphic Art of the Soviet and Post-Soviet Period» and is reproduced in the exhibition catalogue. Germany, 2025.
Ivan Batechko (1926-1981) was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist associated with the Kyiv school. He studied at the Kyiv Art Institute, joined the Ukrainian artists' union in the 1960s and worked with subjects connected to old Ukrainian architecture, ex libris, landscape and historical imagery.
His graphic practice is especially connected with woodcut and architectural views, including Kyiv and its historic monuments. Works by Batechko are represented in Ukrainian museum collections and private holdings.
