Glass, cold enamels and gold, height 17 cm. Probably Georgia.

A rare example of early 20th-century glassmaking, this elegant, slender vessel rests on a low foot that is substantial yet visually light.

The overall design perfectly reflects the taste of the period: the bowl, with its dynamic vertical lines, is balanced by a compact base that gives it stability and a restrained, almost aristocratic elegance.

Of particular merit is the decoration, executed entirely by hand using the cold-enamel technique. The master craftsman created refined ornamental motifs on the body of the glass. Applied in a compact, velvety layer, the enamel creates a delicately raised surface that is also pleasing to the touch.

Unlike hot-working techniques, cold enamels allow extraordinary precision of detail and a chromatic brilliance ranging from turquoise white to deep ultramarine blue.

The entire decoration is enriched by an extremely fine line of gold applied by hand with a brush, discreetly accentuating the ornamental motifs and lending the composition a refined luminosity.

This object was not intended for everyday use, but rather represents a symbol of the age of salons and Decadence, when a single artefact could combine the austere charm of northern nature with the resplendent luxury of the great imperial civilisations. Its condition is that of an authentic antique, with its original patina of age carefully preserved.
