The second edition of a collection of three plays by Michail Afanas'evich Bulgakov, published by the Paris house YMCA-PRESS, which played a fundamental role in the dissemination of Russian literature abroad during the twentieth century.
The volume comprises three satirical works devoted to Soviet life in the 1920s: Zoya's Apartment (1926), The Crimson Island (1927), and Adam and Eve, a work that was neither published nor performed during the author's lifetime. The edition retains its original printed publisher's wrappers and includes a portrait of the author.
This copy is of considerable bibliographic interest as evidence of the circulation of Bulgakov's drama among Western readers at a time when his works were still prohibited in the Soviet Union.
