Sasha Chernyj
Satires and Lyric Poetry
Sasha Chernyj, Satires and Lyrics. Second Book of Poems. St Petersburg, Shipovnik publishing house, 1911. 474 pp.
A luxurious leather binding with gilt tooling and moiré endpapers.
The second poetry collection published during the author's lifetime, in which Sasha Chernyj brings together the two principal aspects of his talent: biting satire and subtle lyricism.
The volume comprises 124 poems from 1908-1911, arranged in the cycles Weeds, Bitter Honey, Among the Germans, and Intoxication (Other Strings). In this collection, social criticism coexists with delicate psychological and landscape sketches, love poetry, and reflections on humanity's tragic fate.
Published by the celebrated St Petersburg house Shipovnik, the edition is a bibliographic rarity of considerable value to collectors of Russian Silver Age poetry.
