A work by the celebrated Soviet writer Il'ja Grigor'evich Ehrenburg, comprising four novellas united by the symbolic motif of the pipe: The Communard's Pipe, The Pipe of Peace, The Film Actor's Pipe, and The Pipe of the Gobulu Tribe.
The central story, The Communard's Pipe, is devoted to the heroism of a young Communard killed by the Versaillais in 1871. The volume is illustrated by V.M. Milashevskij, who also designed the lively publisher's binding with colour-stamped decoration.
A bibliographic rarity of interest to collectors of Soviet literature of the 1930s.
