First edition of Nikolaj Roerich's work, born of his impressions from the great Central Asian expedition of 1923-1928. More than a simple travel account, it is an intense and visionary narrative devoted to the spirituality of the East and the immense expanses between the Himalayas and the Altai.
Roerich describes the austere beauty of deserts and mountains, encounters with local peoples, nomadic customs, and the search for the continent's mysterious 'heart,' still alive in ancient beliefs and legends. Particular prominence is given to the theme of Shambhala, esoteric teachings, and the dialogue between Western culture and Eastern civilisations.
A copy of great historical and spiritual fascination, associated with one of the most emblematic figures of twentieth-century mystical art.
