An edition published during the author's lifetime, written by Prince Nikolaj Borisovich Golicyn, a participant in the Napoleonic Wars and aide-de-camp to General Emmanuel.
The volume recounts the extraordinary life of Georgij Arsen'evich Emmanuel, a Hungarian nobleman who arrived in Russia at the end of the eighteenth century and became a general of cavalry and head of the Caucasus region. Particular attention is given to the events of the Caucasian War and the celebrated scientific expedition to Mount Elbrus in 1829, for which Emmanuel was elected an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences.
Printed by the N. Grech printing house, the work is a bibliographic rarity: issued in a limited print run, it was never reprinted. A copy of great value for Russian military history and nineteenth-century memoir literature.
