An important historical edition written by Petr Petrovich Sushchinskij, full professor at the Imperial Military Medical Academy and an instructor at the Women's Medical Courses.

The volume provides a precise account of the first decade of these courses, which opened the path to higher medical education for Russian women. The author describes the graduates' achievements, as well as the difficulties of the period: the absence of a clearly defined legal status and social prejudice toward the figure of the 'woman scholar.'
