Boris B. Glinsky

B.B. Glinskij, The Children of the Tsars and Their Tutors: Historical Essays for Young Readers. 2nd edition, with portraits, reproductions of historical paintings, views, and other illustrations. St Petersburg; Moscow, M.O. Wolff Company edition, 1912. II, 329, [1] pp., [1] portrait plate: ill.

A substantially enlarged and richly illustrated second edition, published during the lifetime of its author, Boris Borisovich Glinskij, the noted Russian publicist and editor.

In a lively and accessible form, the volume traces the childhood and youth of Russian rulers from Peter I to Alexander II, showing how family surroundings, education, and tutors contributed to the formation of their characters.

Particular attention is given to the imperial tutors, from Nikita Zotov to Vasilij Zhukovskij, and to the everyday atmosphere of the Romanov household. The work is thus a rare historical and pedagogical record, enriched with numerous portraits and illustrations.

A copy of bibliographic and collecting interest.
