A rare Enlightenment volume from the reign of Catherine II, translated from German by Ivan Shuvalov, a student at Moscow University. Printed at N. Novikov's celebrated university press, the book is arranged in question-and-answer form and was intended for the education of the young nobility.
Published in parallel Russian and German text, the volume is a valuable eighteenth-century educational manual and a significant record of the system of knowledge transmitted in Russia during the second half of that century.
