A fine collection of the works of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, published by A.F. Marks in 1910. This is a posthumous edition of particular bibliographic appeal, representative of Russian publishing taste in the early twentieth century.
The six volumes are in sturdy contemporary half chagrin leather bindings with gilt tooling. The decorative scheme includes elegant vignettes and Art Nouveau ornaments, while the illustrated plates are protected by their original tissue guards. The pages, lightly browned with age, retain the authentic character of an important pre-revolutionary historical edition.
